Sustainable Simplicity Organizing – What’s in a Name – Part 2
Simplicity #1: Living More Simply
Our modern world is chaotic and cluttered. We make ~35,000 choices a day, way more than our ancestors did. When your living and working spaces create extra choices or questions like “Where should I keep this?” Or “Where did I put that?” it all becomes too much. This is totally normal; it is a byproduct of our current high-tech worlds. Which explains why minimalism and simplicity have become so popular in recent years. To walk into a space where you feel relaxed and calm instead over overwhelmed feels SO GOOD. We already have so much stress in our lives that we can’t control, but we can control the immediate environment where we live and work. The goal of a professional organizer is to create this peaceful haven away from the chaos in the outside world.
Simplicity #2: Organize in a Simplified Way
Getting started on decluttering a space that has gotten away from you, can be IS overwhelming. My goal is to break this down into manageable steps so that progress can be made. The great part about this process, is that once you start seeing the impact on your life, the easier it is to keep it up.
Step 1: The first step is to identify and prioritize what your biggest pain point is. This will give you the biggest benefit and help you improve your life and see the transformation the fastest.
Step 2: Next is to categorize items, which reduces the amount of overwhelm during the decluttering process tenfold. It helps you to see what is actually there, so you can make meaningful decisions.
Step 3: Declutter – in my opinion, the most fun! Focus on keeping what you really cherish and use, then get rid of the rest of the junk that is just in the way. This step is where real issues are identified and transformation of mindset can occur.
Step 4: The final step is to put things bad in an organized way. During this step you have to keep in mind where you would actually go to look for something or how you use it in your daily life. Make sure the things you use daily are easily accessible and in a spot where it is easy to put it back. Making it look nice is then just the icing on the cake.
